Solved Cannot access BIOS on Toshiba Tecra P11 Laptop on Windows 10

Specs: Windows 10 Pro, 4GB/Many Others
Searched online, and have tried all of the usual Esc, F2, F12 and Ins combinations suggested. I do not have a Toshiba Hardware utility on this particular laptop, as has been suggested I can access the BIOS through. Computer seems to always boot straight into Win 10 startup screen, without displaying Toshiba logo as suggested should happen, even after having been shut down using power option in Start menu, so I am positive it is not simply going to sleep. Only way I can seem to boot from CD is to physically remove the SSD, which obviously is not a sustainable solution. Has been recently upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Windows 10. Machine is infrequently used, so unsure if upgrade has directly affected this. I am planning on using this as a Linux machine for a few tasks, but as it belongs to the boss, I need to be able to easily return it to original state, preferably by running off a live CD. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Upgrading to windows 10 shouldn't have affected bios setup or the key to access it. Do you recall any problems accessing the bios prior to the upgrade?

For that model it should be F2. Sometimes a computer will post so quickly that you may not see the logo or posting screen. Just start tapping F2 as soon as you turn it on.

Thanks DAVEINCAPS. I have tried all that, even holding it down with the power button, but it still won't respond (apart from beeping at me because I'm holding the key down). I don't recall either having issues or not having issues accessing the BIOS on it before the upgrade, it wasn't used much until now. Wishing I had now though, would have helped...

✔ Best Answer
The manual for that model:

http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/file/do...

says:

■To start BIOS Setup;
1. Turn on the computer while pressing the F2 key.
2. Release the F2 key when the TOSHIBA Leading Innovation
>>> screen appears.
■ To end the BIOS Setup;
1. Press F10, and then press Y to accept the changes
The computer will restart.

If that doesn't work, are you using, or have you tried using, an external keyboard?

Didn't you already ask this? Try disabling Windows 10 Fast Startup.

I did, but it disappeared for some reason. So I asked again, this time making myself clearer, and taking a different attitude while I was at it. I will try all of these on Monday when I get back to work and report on the results. Thanks to everyone for all the help.

Holding down F2 and releasing when Toshiba splash screen appears is now working, whereas it wouldn't even show the Toshiba screen before. Weird. Thanks for all the help guys.
