can you use a sata controller card for the OS

Specs: Windows XP, 2.86/512
I have an old Dell Dimension 3000 and I want to install a new 500 gig SATA harddrive, I am going to install Windows XP , will I be able to boot up my system, I plan on adding a PCI controller to connect the drive.

The SATA Controller Card needs to have a Bootable (RAID) BIOS, not all do.....

The SATA Controller drivers will need to be offered on a Floppy at start of XP Install F6:

Alternatively you can create a Custom XP CD with Service Pack 3 and Drivers using nLite:
