can twain_32 folder be safely deleted

Specs: Windows Vista, intel celeron 420@ 1.6 GHZ /GB
I use a Canon MX860 with a USB wire to a Vesta 32 PC. The scanner had worked well since 2009. About mid-April 2012 I, I received and continue to receive the message "Canon MP navigator EX 2.1... has stopped working".

Delving through the net, I find that the problem has existed elsewhere for years. I have tried several remedies found on the net, including the easy one of contacting Canon support. No luck yet. Twice, after trying a remedy, the scanner page has displayed briefly and then the "has stopped working" messge comes up. Several sources on the net point to the TWAIN_32 folder as a possible source of the problem. Can it be deleted with the other printer software/drivers when re-installing software?

Twain is part of the scanning process so I don't think you ought to delete it. You might consider a rename of it if you feel it would be a use in testing.

Generally you uninstall then install. Not all uninstall apps work correctly.

As to what to try I can't suggest a good answer. Might be related to some web or browser issue. http://www.win7heads.com/hardware/3...
