Like T-R-A says, the name of the computer doesn't matter as long as you have the same cable and type of connection on the computer. You don't need drivers for a monitor.

If it's an LCD monitor, google the specs & make sure you adjust the screen resolution to the "native resolution" for the monitor.

Dell really does not make the monitor, they just get someone to put their name on it by purchasing many at a time. Brand does not matter, XP does not need drivers, as mentioned, only resolution options may be an issue on some cheaper LCD's.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Likely no. Drivers are not normally used for monitors unless there is some "special" resolution setting. Just make sure that before you swap out monitors, you set the resolution of your video card/chipset to something below or equal to what the monitor can handle (800x600 is usually a good starting point---you can increase that later). You may have to "center-up" the image on the display after you connect it, however...
