I was wondering if I am able to swap a motherboard from my HP dv6t laptop with a motherboard from an HP dv7t laptop. I need to install a new compatible motherboard that has an IEEE firewire port on it. Please help, I am running out of resources.... Thanks in advance!

If the HP dv6t laptop system works fine, buy yourself a firewire adapter card ! PCMCIA Type II or III, or ExpressCard, whichever applies

If it doesn't, go to the the HP site and download the Maintenance manual for the model series - the part numbers for the possible mboards may be in that.

OR -

Go here and look up the possible HP part numbers for the mboard(s) for each model:

Laptops tend to have unique motherboards. I'd only get a direct model to model replacement unless HP says the boards are compatible .

My guess is the cost to replace the OEM motherboard costs almost as much as a new system. Might consider a new laptop and you get a new battery and software and warranty.

What happened to the old motherboard anyway?
