Can I Replace desktop HDD with laptop HDD?

Specs: N/A
I was given a ASUS motherboard stripped but the wires, DVD multi pata drive
Power supply but no drives there are 6 sata ports on the board and only 1 EIDE for the DVD I have a sata laptop drive that was installed with xp originally a vista setup but most drivers didn't work due to damage Can the laptop drive be used as a main drive in the desktop?

Yes u can use 2.5 sata hdd to install os but laptop hard drives are slower than desktop(most of them are 5400 rpm). U have to start from scratch and don't forget to install all necessary drivers.

You may also need to use an adapter to mount the drive into the case.

Hard drives are so cheap now there is no reason to do that. Look at the link below.

Keep in mind you might run into issues with using a large hard drive in an older system or with SATA I & II compatibility.

You can use a laptop (2.5 inch) SATA hard drive in a desktop computer. The data and power connectors are exactly the same for both laptop (2.5") and desktop (3.5") hard drives.
