What is it precisely that you're attempting? Hopefully you didn't plug each machine together using a standard USB cable---it could damage both machines. If you're trying to transfer files:

will this work even though i can not put a disk in my note book i only want to transfer some music files i have tried using a memory stick it transfers the files but they wont open and play, i did put the usb cable into each luckily have done no damage,

If you've already copied the files to the laptop, you're almost there. What happens when you try and open them? You weren't very specific.

sorry im new to this when i try to open a music file its says invalid file it will play with the memory stick in but stops when i take it out

That's perfectly normal if you're opening the file from the thumb drive. Copy the files to the laptop and then you'll be all set.
