Specs: Windows XP
My flashdrive automatically copies a folder on my hard drive when I plug it in. I want it to copy only when I execute a copy command.

What folder is it copying? A folder from the flash drive to the computer? Content is on the flashdrive? is there an "autorun" file?

Delete the file named autorun.inf. It may be hidden too. Create a folder by that name to prevent it from doing that again.

It is normally a virus that does that. All your usb drives may have this. Get a good AV program.

the flashdrive copies a folder that is on my desktop. The flash copy contains exactly the same data as the desktop folder. The intent is to use the flashdrive folder as backup. Auto copying defeats the purpose of a backup since data lost on one is also lost on the other.

The copy function occurs in either direction. I don't know if there is an autorun file. I have not created one.
