i recently purchased a HP pavilion a1640n disassembled and i want to assemble the desktop i bought the desktop with all the parts in a box i have not assembled a computer before where do i plug in the components on the motherboard and which ribbons do i need to go to what device

You'll need to google up a PC builders 101 guide, but for most of the components, it's very difficult to connect them incorrectly. Here's one to get you started:

The best way to learn is trial and error. Most everything will only fit one way.

Given that all the parts came in a box, how certain are you that it's going to work once you get it together? Maybe it was disassembled because it wasn't working.
