Buffalo External Hard Drive not showing up in myComputer

Specs: Windows 7
I have seen some posts years ago, but was interested in more recent updates if there are any.

Drive has worked well for a couple years ... just today it no longer shows up as a Drive that I can access when I plug it in. I called Buffalo and they are sending me a new power supply ( I assume they have had alot of problems and are now providing them).

Are there other things I can try short of cracking open the enclosure, replacing the power supply or putting the drive in my desktop?

Have you tried this method?

Click the Start orb and right-click "Computer". When the Computer Management dialog box appears, search for "Disk Management". You should see a blue bar above the drive if you followed the steps correctly. Now right-click on it and choose "Change Drive Letters and Paths". Once you've done that, re-assign the drive to an available drive letter.

The drive is not visible in Disk Mgmt.

btw. I get a pop up that says I must initialize the disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it. It gives me two options ... MBR (Master Boot Record) and GPT (GUID Partition Table). I hit cancel and it then went to the Disk Mgmt screen

That error means that your hard drive driver may not have been installed properly. Click the Start button and type "Device Manager" in the search box. When the Device Manager window pops up, find and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Now find the hard drive, right click on it, and choose Uninstall. Remove the hard drive and plug it back in. Since USB devices are Plug and Play, the drivers should automatically re-install. Repeat step 1 after this.
