This computer keeps restarting and I keep getting blue screen with the 'MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION' error message along with it. I have changed out the hard drive, memory, power supply, added a video card and I still get the same blue screen with same message. It had Windows XP Pro installed on it and I have run a burn-in test each time I swapped out a component. The model number is Compaq SR1920nx with an Athlon 3500 cpu, Nvidia 6150le onboard graphics, I put a 250gb hard drive in it(replacing the original 200gb HD) and 2gb PC3200 memory. Help. All replies are greatly respected and appreciated.

Loretta

Have you cleaned the vents, fans and CPU heatsink?

When you get the blue screen can you let us know the first bunch of figures it shows please?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I forgot to mention that I had thoroughly cleaned all fans and vents but not the cpu. Now, my sister came to me in the last hour and said she is getting a new laptop for school and to 'throw this one overboard'.
So.....again, thanks for the reply and as always you guys are the cats!

MCE's are typically caused by:
• RAM
• CPU
• MB

If you have a kernel or full dump, you can throw it into the debugger and look at the exception structure, but I doubt that'll actually narrow down the problem.

Oh, I wouldn't worry about saving it. As of Vista, MCE was replaced with WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
