brother printer MFC-9840CDW paper jam

February 4, 2013 at 21:51:25
Specs: Macintosh 10.8.2

My main and only bottom paper tray gives me an error message "Jam Tray 1" every time I print something. I have to open the drawer, barely push the paper back in the drawer, then close it before it will work.

Please help me. :-(

It only takes a small scrap of paper to cause paper-jam error.
Dis-assemble as much as possible and have a careful look for pieces of paper.

Thank you so much for responding. I've checked many times. There's definitely no paper pieces. It seems like the rollers don't grab the paper. I've tried cleaning them with a damp paper towel, but that doesn't help. When I open the drawer after the message, the paper seems to have been pulled up a tiny tiny bit. So I push it back in, and sometimes that works, other times it takes several attempts. So frustrating.

HI Toni,

are you fanning the paper before putting in the trays?

is the paper correct for the printer? e.g. if too shiny might not pick up.

how old is the printer? e.g. if old, paper rollers might be worn (shiny)

You say it works sometimes, is that correct and if so, does it print ok?

When the tray is pushed in, does the paper position (maybe sprung upwards) against any feed rollers.
Would expect at least one, which pushes the paper into the first pinch rollers.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Clean the rollers with alcoholic spirit - if they are the least bit greasy they can play up.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
