Brand new laptop keeps freezing

Sony / Vaio vgn-nw26m

Specs: Windows 7
I bought a Sony Vaio VGN-NW26M laptop last week. For no apparent reason it often freezes and the cursor or keys won't work. Even ctrl-alt-del doesn't work so i have to keep turning it off by holding down the power key.
I have done a full virus scan and there are no infected files. All i have installed is firefox, tunes and microsoft office suite. Is it a problem with the laptop?

I'd say yes

It sounds like faulty memory (Ram or Hard Drive)

You may want to contact the place you bought it from or Sony warranty support

Do note that their first response may be: Backup and Restore the entire computer (to test its not some software or anything that has happened in the last week

So backup, and re-install clean
I would do this because you don't want to find out 6months from now that you had a hardware issue all along
