Specs: Windows 7
E-Machines E525 laptop. Belongs to my Son. His siblings have broken the USB ports by poking a pen or similar in so can no longer plug anything through USB ports. Need an alternative - he has a mulitcard reader port but I need someway I can get a *something* to create an external USB port for him to use

Short of getting the USB ports repaired I think your son is out of luck. The link below lists the specs of that laptop and indicates no PC (PCMCIA) slot is available.

Thank you both for your replies - I was (simplistically) hoping that there might be a "card reader" to USB adaptor . . but I have (obviously) only come across adaptors the other way round! I was hoping he *might* have had a pcmcia slot but, as said, no such luck.

It'll teach him to leave it open while he goes away to europe (with his school) for the week - 50% his fault for leaving it out and 50% the other four's fault for intefering with it - but you can get anybody to admit to the wrongdoing!

If anybody thinks of anything I'd be grateful to know. A *reliable* man with knowledge to re-do the ports on the board etc local to LE11 might help!

A local laptop repair repair place may be able to replace the physical USB ports with standard ports.

From what I've seen, at least some laptops have a removable board that has one or more USB ports - if that can be found, that could be replaced.

Where can I order parts or accessories for my computer?
