May be something is wrong with power jack.

Have you, or is it possible someone else who had access to this computer...
- dropped it, or dropped anything on it, or otherwise exposed it to a physical jolt ?
- spilled liquid on it, or sprayed it with liquid, or exposed it to liquid such as rain ?

Since the video last worked properly all the time, has there been a power failure event that happened while the AC adapter was plugged in ?

Those things are the most frequent reasons something inside the laptop has been damaged.

Laptop no video (or video problems), and battery, AC adapter, power jack T shooting.

Hi Chaddy,

do you have one charger or two?

have you metered the charger's supply at the jack plug?
a common problem is the cable, having been bent too tight and often, where it enters the jack plug, fractures.

Please advise back on progress.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Why do you have two laptops/computers that are the same?
Try swapping parts between the two.

Hi chaddy

My name is Vikram and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. I regret to hear that your Dell systems are not turning on at all. Please disconnect the adapter and unplug the battery from your system. Once done. press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds to release static from your system. Please connect the ac adapter back and try powering on the system. If this does not resolve the issue, you may consider replacing the motherboard since you mentioned ac adapter is working fine.

Glad to assist you!

Thanks and regards

I've never heard of 'release the static from your system' sounds like mumbo-jumbo to me.

I've just fixed 2 Inspiron 1300 with this fault. The power pin is fixed into the back plate of the socket by spreading its metal behind the socket, As the power plug is pushed in the pin gets pushed around and its fixing comes loose. So, solder a wire into the back end of the pin, take that wire round the edge of the PCB, solder to the place where the power socket pin is connected. Easy (nearly).
