Boot problems

May 6, 2010 at 14:43:39
Specs: Windows 7
I was attempting to boot off of a E-SATA portable hard drive, so I set the BIOS ro AHCI, this is the version ACPI BIOS Revision 1207 Asus Maximus Formula. It never detected drive but now when I turn the system on, it tries to auto-detect AHCI port and then it simply freezes. When I press the del key it says its enetering setup but then goes no where. I've tried reconnecting and disconnecting the E-SATA drive but the system still freezes as soon as it boots up. All the internal drives are connected. If I press ALT+F2 I can flash the BIOS but I may not be able to get back into Windows 7 or XP. There is a cmos button I can press on the back of the motherboard would that do anything different.

Let's start over.

Remove esata, return bios ahci to what it was and try to boot to MS. What happens.

Thanks for the help but I solved the problem. I simply disconnected all the internal drives which were ATA, then I turned on the comp and I was able to get into the BIOS and configure the SATA back to IDE. When I rebooted I was able to get back into windows.
