Boot Computer and no video

September 28, 2009 at 07:24:04
Specs: Windows XP
This computer was working fine. I booted up the box and received the "Monitor is OK, check connection" msg. The monitor cable had disconnected. Plugged in the cable and no change. Tried different monitor with no change in results. Tried 2 different video cards and again I get no video. This is confusing especially since the box was working fine the day before. Any suggestions?

The power supply 'and' the motherboard have to be working to get the initial POST beep and a display. If you get neither, try swapping out the power supply.

I am using VGA video. The problem is not the initial boot. The box comes up, Hard Drive spins, CDrom will eject etc. I just do not get any video. The system was working fine 2 hours before.
What is weird about this is, a month ago I tried to rebuild a system from a used working MB, CPU, RAM and new PSU and could not get that box to give me any video or beeps(never could get it to work). I Google the problem and see similar posts, none with a working solution. I am lost and frustrated with this problem

"The box comes up"

If you do not get the normal single POST beep, the box is not up.

The power supply must put out several voltages. A single missing or out of tolerance voltage will cause the symptoms that you described.
