Bleeping Hard Drive

July 1, 2010 at 16:13:56
Specs: Windows XP, 1 gb
One night I was awoken by regular bleeps coming from my Dell 5150C with XP Pro Operating system. The sound was coming from the box not the speakers. The only way I could stop it was by switching off at the wall. The next morning the PC worked as normal but what could have caused the sounds in the night?

Jeez, haven't you watched any of the poltergeist movies?

You're not really green until you're soylent green.

Jeez! Reeley! Maybe the spirits are communicating through the stuffed lion that sits on top of the PC? Bleeping heck! And I thought it might be that the HDD was making its way to heaven!

The "box" probably has a built in speaker which transmits "beep codes".

If you research them you will be able to interpret what the box was trying to relay to you from the beyond.

Edit

If the beeping started at around 3am, this may have been triggered by auto updates. The box may have been trying to tell you it wanted to be rebooted,,, in which case you probably done the right thing,

Thank you. I assume there was nothing to worry about then.
