November 7, 2012 at 06:19:28
Specs: Windows 7
I have a Pioneer DVD recorder DVR-650H-S. I bought mitsubishi blank DVDs DVD-RW 4.7 GB ver 1.2/2x-4x. I get the message: please load a recordable disk, or: cannot initiate this disk. Same problem with Sony DVD-R. With Sony DVD-RW, it works perfectly. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

Weird though it might sound, some drives are fussy about the media brand.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

"Weird though it might sound, some drives are fussy about the media brand."

Actually, that shouldn't be that weird at all. I've always had different DVD-recorders (both video and on a PC) that were picky about media. All of them do appear to like Philips, but others upchuck on HP while favoring Memorex; while even others are just the opposite. I'm sure if you got enough people to chime in, they'd likely have different views...

What you have is not a computer related product but a recorder product.
Pioneer DVR-650H-S (250 GB) DVD Recorder / HDD Recorder

Playable Disk Types: DVD-RAM

However, as stated previously, there are some disks that are not compatible or it may be that you need to get 16X speed disks.
