Solved black screen works ok with external monitor

July 25, 2013 at 11:38:22
Specs: Windows 7 Home premium, 1200ghz 3 gb
Asus X5DC
I have a black screen - the computer will start up - ie I can hear the hard drive and the light flickers as the machine starts up - but nothing on screen.
I have drained the power - battery and ac adapter out press start button for 30 seconds - reconnect ac power only - still the same. I have tried removing a memory card - and tried each of the two slots and then with the other memory card - still the same - so in desperation I bought a new scvreen and fitted it - still black !
Any other ideas folks ???????

Possibly the most important statement is in your title "works ok with external monitor". Check to ensure that the computer is not been set to work to an external monitor only. Otherwise maybe there is a problem with its connections to the motherboard.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks for fast reply. I should have said that toggling (Fn+F5) does not make any difference except to switch off the external monitor image. I have checked the connection from screen to motherboard is tight.

Very odd. Right now I can only assume that either the cable between screen and mobo is faulty or there is some obscure fault on the mobo itself. Stick around and see what others think.

Thank you Derek for your additional reply. I still have the issue - but have bought a replacement cable which has not arrived yet. I am hoping that may provide the answer rather than the mobo !
