Bios screen appears and no post

Specs: Windows XP, intel core2 duo 2.53 ghz
WHEN I BOOT MY COMPUTER I SEE A BIOS SCREEN SPLASH MERCURY BOARD THEN IT REMAIN IT FOR LONG TIME EVEN I CANNOT USE THE BOIS KEY TO ENTET IN THE BIOS BUT THE KEYBOARD DETECTED AND NO POST BEEP OF RAM. I'M VERY MUCH CONFUSED I SAW THIS PROBLEM AT FIRST TIME WHAT WOULD I DO PLEASE HELP! HELP! HELP ME!!

Disconnect any hard drives, optical drives, USB and PCI/PCI-e devices. Make sure your RAM is seated properly, then reset the BIOS with the system off and unplugged by removing the button battery for about a minute and reinstalling it. Plug the PC back in and turn back on.

When did this problem start happening?
