BIOS ROM Checksum Error No A Drive

Self built / Msi ms7168

Specs: Windows XP, AMD Athlon 64/2GB RAM
My PC crashed this morning but restarted OK after a reboot (and scandisc). Then it crashed again and wouldn't reboot. I'm getting an error message something like this:-

Detecting floppy drive A media
Drive A Error. System halt.

Along with this I'm getting a continuous alarm from my motherboard. The thing is, I don't have a floppy drive or drive A installed and am stuck as to what to do.

I can't get into BIOS although I know it's set to boot from CD then HDD and I had disabled the A Drive option months ago (as I don't have one).

I'm running Windows XP Pro on a self built system with a Winfast motherboard, a 2Ghz AMD CPU and 2GB of RAM.

Any ideas anyone? Please?

Sounds like your BIOS has reverted back to defaults. If you are using a USB or wireless keyboard that would explain why you can't assess the BIOS screens. Try a PS/2 KB.

In addtion to OtheHill's's possible your CMOS battery is bad. That would cause the BIOS to reset to the defaults.

Thanks for your replies - I changed the keyboard and CMOS battery - it actually turned out to be a faulty stick of RAM!
