bios prompt not appearing on startup

December 22, 2010 at 13:24:39
Specs: Windows XP
I want to boot from CD and need to reconfigure bios to startup from CD. When I restart it goes straight to Windows login. I've tried pressing F1, F2 and F10 separately before windows login appears but it doesn't matter.
A HP Compaq DC 5000

If you'd say what kind of box, somebody might know the right keys.

How do you expect us advise you as to which key will let you into your BIOS?
You have NOT told us anything about the make and model of your PC or the motherboard you have in it?
It does it make it difficult to help you as we have to look around for information to help you which in many cases you could do yourself. Google is your friend in this regard.

Anyway here are some common PC Hardware BIOS entry key commands:

HP Compaq DC 5000 You have to hit the key way before the Windows start screen. Usually in the first few seconds after startup. Try ESC to see screen. I can't read all the choices before it disappears. Bad eyes, small type. ESC, F10, F2, F12 I think.

He put the PC identity after my comment. Edited his post to add it in.
I did read and it was NOT on at first.

Compaq is F10. You're just not hitting it at the right time.

If you can't seem to get it, you can open the case and disconnect the hard drive. Then start it up. The bios will detect the hard drive is gone and ask about going into cmos/bios setup.

Real men don't use AntiVirus; they just reformat

Yes, F10 is the correct key to get to BIOS (setup). If you are not getting anything using that keystroke it may be because you are not using the original keyboard.
