BIOS password problem

Specs: Windows XP
Hi I had lent my laptop to my x wife and it has come back with a bios password
#61X5G1S-595B I did the battery thing but the problem still exists any idea's.

That looks more like a hard disk password put there by the manufacturer rather than a BIOS password created by a user.

If it is the hard disk password it cannot be changed and cannot be recovered if you forget it.

If it is a BIOS password just go into the BIOS and disable BIOS passwords. You only need do the battery thing if you have forgotten the BIOS password and it does nothing for a hard disk password.

Another in the seemingly endless excuses for not knowing BIOS passwords on laptops. 99.9% of cases the laptop is not in the hands of it's legitimate owner.

Call your EX and ask for the password or contact an authorized Dell service technician and be prepared to prove ownership. You will probably have to send them the unit to have it unlocked. I would be very wary of response number 2. Suspect if you respond to his email he'll ask for money before providing you with a "Master Password" that then won't work.
