bios hang up

Hewlett-packard Compaq nc6220 motherboar...

Specs: Windows XP
i installed a 512mb ddr2 ram. when i turned it
on, it hangs up in the welcome logo and
cannot enter the bios. So, i tried to change it
to 1gig. When i turned it on again, it continue,
bips twice and appear a message "164-
memory size error". I tried to enter bios and it
hangs up again.

what should i do?
please help me.

Remove new ram and try it again.

If so, it should take a max of 2 gig of ram.

Maybe you're installing incompatible ram?

Return your ram configuration to whatever it was when the laptop worked OK. Does it still work OK?
