bios detects hard drive but wont boot

Specs: Windows XP
i just swapped out a hard drive from an older computer to a newer computer....old PC had a larger HD with a lot of data on it, was going to use it to run newer PC...BIOS detect the HD but when it tries to boot to it, i get a blank screen with a cursor blinking in upper left corner

Not surprising it wont boot. TheOperating System is configured for hardware from the old computer and knows nothing of the hardware in the new computer.

You are going to have to reinstall the operating system.

You can install the Old HDD as a 2nd (slave) HDD, The Data and Saved Programs will be accessable but yo cannot use the OLD OS.

Or you can attempt a repair install on the Old HDD, in the New Computer using the Windows XP CD.
