Solved Belkin USB media card reader not recognized on Dell XPS Win8

August 24, 2013 at 20:07:05
Specs: Windows 8
I have not been able to get my Belkin media reader to work on my Dell XPS Windows 8 system. I tried to get a driver from the Belkin web site but they do not seem to provide support for this reader. Can you suggest a work around or should I just replace this reader?

Yeah, Belkin is hiding their support page for that model. But I found this:

http://www.belkin.com/au/support-ar...

It mentions, as I said above, that your OS doesn't need any added drivers. There is a download there that will add icons but the specs for the download only go up to vista so it may not work on your windows 8. Plus, you don't need it.

It reads 56 different cards including SDHC so I doubt you're plugging in an incompatible card.

So it's likely a bad reader, USB port problem or connection problem.

Model number of the reader please

Windows 8 shouldn't have a problem seeing and setting up the reader. Does it not show up as a drive or does it show as a drive but won't read cards you put in it? If the former it may be bad, have a bad connection or maybe the USB port isn't enabled. Have you tried all the ports?

If it's seen but won't read cards it may be an older model and you're using incompatible cards such as SDHC. As requested by kuwese please post back its model number.

The reader does not show up with or without a card installed. The cards are current. Dell provided this reader when I bought the system so I assumed it would be compatible with it. I have tried all available USB ports on the Dell and on the targus device attached to it.

Just saw your # 4. My guess is it's a bad reader.

Edit Well, if possible try it in another computer, just to make sure.

DAVE, thanks for the help. I tried the reader on my wife's computer and sure enough it did not work there either. So the reader is defective as you suspected.
