Solved ASUS P4V800-X With Only 2 Memory Slots

July 7, 2011 at 18:13:53
Specs: Windows XP SP3, Celeron
I went to upgrade memory in a friend's old PC. Windows XP system info and the Crucial Memory scanner both say the PC motherboard is ASUS P4V800-X with 3 slots. But, when I opened up the PC, the motherboard only had two memory slots. I'm a relative newbie to hardware upgrades (though I don't usually have problems with just inserting memory), so I'm stumped. How do I find out what model of motherboard this really is?
I'm hesitant to add memory unless I have the correct motherboard manual to know maximum voltages supported.

Since you have the case opened, look for the model number on the board.

Thanks. I looked while I had it open, but couldn't see anything but a big DDR400. It's probably buried under the dust and dirt. I was hoping that someone might know without my having to clean off the board. Think if it's this dusty, we may just go with a new computer.

It will hold 2 gigs of pc 3200 ddr 400. Use a can of compressed air to blow out the inside of the case. It is an older model machine. Not worth upgrading much.
