Asus Mobo Not Recognizing SATA

Samsung Spinpoint f3 hd103sj hard drive...
May 28, 2010 at 17:22:25
Specs: Windows XP
My motherboard is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe.

I already have 3 IDE HDD's hooked up and 2
IDE CD/DVD drives (w/no issues).

I am now trying to add a Samsung 1 TB SATA
(the jumper correctly set on mobo), the boot
sequence stops at this line:

Primary Channel: Samsung HD103SJ
Secondary Channel: Drive Not Found

I cannot see the Samsung 1 TB SATA drive in
my Bios.

What should I do next?

Thanks.

Is the SATA channel(s) or port 0 or 1 etc, enabled in the BIOS?

Just another stupid saying...

Your board is almost 8 yrs old is was one of the earliest with SATA. Obviously it's 1st generation, SATA150. The old controller may simply have problems with modern SATA HDDs.

Why do you need so many drives on such an ancient system anyway? And how do you connect 5 IDE devices on a board that only supports 4?

Hi.

"Is the SATA channel(s) or port 0 or 1 etc, enabled in the
BIOS?"

I don't know. How do I do this? I don't see anything about
SATA in my bios. Where should I be looking?

As for the other response: I know it's 1st generation....but
there's nothing I can do about that, right? I'm not up for buying
a new board or machine at this point. As for it being SATA
150, there's nothing I can do about that either. As for having 5
drives...I have a PCI card which adds more IDE connections. As for why I need so many drives.....because I have a lot of
data. This being the case, do you have any recommendations
on steps to take considering the information I have provided?

Thanks again.

This could be similar to what you have (manual link below), you'd have to check the BIOS settings etc in there, there are some BIOS Screen shots:

You might need a BIOS update etc. I'm not sure about the compatiblity of that new Samsung 1 TB SATA HDD and your motherboard. I would guess that the SATA would be backwards compatible, but I'm not sure.

You will need to install the sata drivers for your system too.
