Specs: Windows 7
laptop appears to overheat then completely shut down could it be power supply failing

as per another computing.net member:

If you haven't already done so, try a blast of compressed air in the cooling vents to blow out any accumulated dust from the heatsinks.

Did you check the BIOS to see if it reports the CPU temp & fan RPMs?

Also, can't you tell if the fans are running just by listening or by feeling for airflow from the vents?

If it does it when running on the battery, it can't be the power supply.
