USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, just not USB 1.1 Did you first install the driver disk before plugging it into the computer? This is usually the process with today's printers. Most computers and even laptops today include both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports where the blue ones are usually the USB 3.0 ports. Also note that USB 2.0 ports show the USB High Speed symbol and the USB 3.0 ports show the USB Super Speed (USB-SS) symbol (google image easily).
