Specs: Windows 7 pro, i5 2400
Motherboard Asus P8P67 Deluxe, graphics card GIGABYTE GTX 470.
2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (single at x16 or dual at x8/x8 mode)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 [Black] (at x4 mode, compatible with PCIe x1 and x4 devices)
2 x PCIe 2.0 x1
2 x PCI
question... I want to put the video card in the farthest slot (black) will this greatly limit its performance? I wish to put it in this slot to change the cooling system on the VGA !

Look at page 2-13 of your manual. You will see that your should use slot #2 for single card graphics.

Slot #7 (black) is compatible with PCIe x1 or 4. The manual doesn't indicate that you CAN'T use that slot for graphics but I would follow the manual and use slot #2.

Thank you for your quick response! In fact I am putting together the machine and have yet to get all the parts. Hence my question as I realize that the GTX 470 is a very hot and noisy card so I am looking for alternative cooling solutions!

What makes you say that? The stock fan should take care of it. I think the engineers would have thought about that.
