annoying problem with my laptop screen

Specs: Windows 7
Well,
I have a small but very annoying problem with my laptop screen. It has a kind of pixely effect which is subtle when using the internet or other such tasks.. but it really gets my back up when playing games..
Its quite hard to explain but .. i guess its like you can see each pixel really well .. theres no sharpness to the screen for example ..say theres a colour transition .. instead of being nice and smooth like it should be, you can see each separate tone of colour from one to the next.. like lookin at some really old games console..
I first noticed this when I upgraded the drivers for my graphics card.. so ive tried reinstalling the same new drivers.. but still the same .. so i installed the old drivers just to see what happened.. and still the same .. ive now even reinstalled my OS and new drivers.. but still the same.. im starting to loose my rag with it now .. if anyone had the same problem and managed to sort it please let me know:).. I really hope its not hardware related .. ive had nothing but problems with this company..

Are you running the native resolution for your screen? You could also try running clear type.

Try the monitor on another system.

The three most important things in computing:
1. Backups, 2. Backups and 3. Backups.

What you are describing is known as "banding" where different colors don't transition smoothly into each other. Make sure you are running your color quality at 32 bit. Anything less will result in banding.
