December 28, 2009 at 13:33:35
Specs: Windows 7 64bit
Im asking here cause Im blocked from googling the answer being at work. Which is better between the phenom 965 140w vs i7 920? Or what are your thoughts on best for bang for your buck?
I just purshased the 965 Saturday and am still waiting for my parts to get here. So that was my choice only because I know it will run anything I need it to and it was a little cheaper.

hmm...one is AMD, the other is Intel.....I think you`ll need different motherboards for them two....

I think i7 920 is much better than phenom 965....

1. Runs cooler....
2. Has less power consumption....
3. Runs faster....

Yeah I went with the amd setup. This is what I went with:

asus mobo (cant remember model off hand)
amd 965 black edition 140w
ati hd 5770
4gig gskill 1600 ram (2x4gig)

It only cost me $560

OK...good....just to let you know....Intel Core i7 920 is better than your current processor...

Until you post the exact model of the motherboard, we can`t tell you if it supports i7 920 too....

If the current board supports any AMD processor then it can't support any Intel processor.

How about thinking first.

I know this already. Back to the topic...
Like I said I am blocked from google searches, so can anyone let tell me how much better the i7 setup would have been? Did I go with a reasonable comparison?

Core i7 I7-920 Quad vs Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad

You'll need a damn good power supply, especially considering the wattage requirements of the CPU. And I assume you got a socket AM3 board based on an AMD chipset & DDR3 memory?

Nope I cant go there. What is that link? Damn and if its 30% maybe I should have spent the extra $200 and gone intel setup...

Cant go to yours either jam... Summary for me? :)

Oh yeah its ddr3/am3 and I have a 520w corsair 12v, 3v psu I think it is.. I might need a psu, but I guess Ill find out when I get the parts.

The link is a chart showing the results of over 2 dozens benchmarks. The i7 won about 20 of them...some by a little, some by a lot.

Hey thanks jam. :) Then it sounds like I went with the reasonable comparison. Hopefully the power bill wont counteract that...
