After brief power failure, USB is not reconized.

Asus Usb-n13 pro n usb adaptor
January 20, 2012 at 05:12:08
Specs: Windows 7
Yesterday the power had a dip (was down for 1 sec) and the PC shut down. The USB device, ASUS USB_N13 didn't get recognized. It doesn't even flicker the light that was suppose to show it's on or that the PC is reading the data (you all know the red, blue, yellow etc light when you plug in a usb device). It reads some usb devices so it's not the ports only storage devices and modems are affected. My first instinct tells me that it's the power supply that's not giving sufficient power to the ports because of the brief power failure.

Kindly advice.

The power glitch may have damaged your powersupply but if the USB device was connected at the time the damage may have extended to motherboard USB controller and the USB device itself. Have you access to another machine to test whether the USB devices still work?

In addition to the above comments I suggest you look in Device manager for the external drive enclosure.

USB external hard drives are actually 2 devices. First the enclosure and then the hard drive itself. If the enclosure isn't functioning correctly you will never see the hard drive. If the enclosure is functioning but the partition on the hard drive has become corrupted then the drive may not show in My Computer.

Look for the hard drive in Windows Disk Management.
