I would first start by reseating your RAM. So just take them out, try to start the computer with just one stick installed.

So, the only other things you could try is to pull the battery and disconnect the AC, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then just plug the AC adapter back in and try to power up. So if your hard drive light is not ticking away it means that the system is not booting, so it's most likely not an LCD failure, but we should be sure, so take a flashlight and shine it on your screen to see if there is any video. You may also want to connect your computer to a monitor, just to be sure. Next would be minimal configuration. Remove the optical drive and hard drive, and any wireless cards to see if you can at least get POST. If that doesn't work there is most likely an issue with your mainboard.

You may want to see if you broke off any of your USB ports, that's the only other think I can think of.

I was still trying what you said at firrst, but there is one thing I observed, when the battery and power cord are connected and I press the power button the leds will not come on till I release the button. and the the fan starts.
When I disconnect the power cord and press the power button the power led flashes, and when I release the button then the fan starts.
thanks

May have something to do with how the power control IC functions, but I don't think it is relevant to your issue. We don't have Advent computers here in the US so I don't have knowledge of any known issues with your model, but it sounds like ether the northbridge failed or the CPU failed. There are a lot of HPs that exhibit the same symptoms and it is do to chipset failing. Some laptops would have a BIOS Boot lock, where the BIOS would not load. Some times you will have to remove all power to the computer and remove the CMOS battery and short out the leads to drain any residual power from the capacitors. Then there are some computers, mostly netbooks, that you would have to do a BIOS recovery do to corruption of the BIOS code. There could be a lot of other things that could be wrong, but at this point I would say replace the mainboard.
