acer m5100 reboots shortly after post, psu ok

Specs: none, trying to install
trying to install operating system after crash. new hard drive, psu seems ok. reboots after windows vista loads files and before I can install vista. tried windows 7 same result. reboots and operating system won't load. motherboard seems to be working ok otherwise. windows 7 makes it to expanding files before reboot.

So you're pretty sure the crash was the hard drive and not some other piece of hardware? Are you sure you got everything reconnected right while you were inside the case--fans too?

After you boot from the OS installation disk and it copies the files it should reboot and continue the installaiton. When it reboots and you get the 'boot from hard drive, boot from cd' option be sure to choose the hard drive.

Any error messages? Is the hard drive seen OK in cmos/bios setup and as part of the setup did you partition and format it?

Hard Drive definitely crashed. I checked/did all the things you mentioned. I solved the problem. Found that one memory chip went bad somehow. Replaced the chip, now everything working normal. Loaded Windows Vista and all is well. Thanks for the reply.
