Acer Laptop-Replacement Battery Wrong Voltage

September 28, 2010 at 15:21:37
Specs: Windows XP
I have an Acer 5601 Laptop which was having battery problems, so I bought a replacement.

It turns out the replacement is a 14.8v / 4800mAh battery whereas the original was an 11.1v 4000mAh battery.

Needless to say, the laptop now won't even switch on. I suspect that I've fried something inside, but would appreciate any advice on what next steps I could take to fix the damage?

The steps to take now lead you to a qualified technician who can test the hardware and determine whether or not the system can be salvaged. If the motherboard needs replacement you need consider the economics.

Do you have a 5601 or 5610? The 01 uses the 14.8v, the 10 uses the 11.1v.
