Acer laptop won't always awake from sleep

Acer / ASPIRE 4720Z

Specs: Windows Vista
The lid is closed & the laptop is in sleep mode and when I open it, 8 times out of 10 it'll stay black and not respond. I've actually had to remove the battery and re-insert it in order to even turn it off and restart it. After doing that the laptop works fine. Am I doing something wrong? I'm also wondering if it would hurt the laptop to just put it in sleep mode by closing the lid rather than shut it down all the time at night. I'm only asking because it takes so long for it to connect and get up and running. It's only 2 1/2 yrs old. Thanks, Sharon

You could do that, but more importantly, find out why it takes so long to boot and reconnect. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Click RUN and type MSCONFIG and click the startup tab. Uncheck all unnecessary programs that are now set to start up with a boot. Better to activate chat programs etc, after you're up and running. Have you recently run virus checkers and anti malware programs? If you're running Norton Antivirus, dump it for a smaller free program like Avast Antivirus. Also download and install ccleaner slim and run it. This will safely clean out old files and entries. Also I suggest Malwarebytes anti malware program. You can find all of them on google. Good Luck.

Also we need to know your laptop name.
I also suspect the same thing, lots of garbage. Do as grasshopper suggested.

I had the same problem with an HP Pavilion laptop, nothing else worked, this is what did work:

Update your video driver.
run dxdiag.exe from your start bar to find out the model of your video card.
Go to video card manufcturer's website, not the computer manufacturer's website, and find the latest driver for that exact card.
run the video driver update application.
