Acer laptop require several pushes to turn on

September 8, 2010 at 13:11:39
Specs: Windows XP Home, 2.6GHz/256(240)mb
My Acer Travelmate 244LC will eventually boot from cold but only after several (10-30) pushes (followed by a 'click' noise) on the start button. Occassionally, but very rarely, it will boot immediately. However, once running it will shut down and re-start using the mouse pad without any problem. Any ideas?

Do you get the same results with or without the AC adapter connected?

Makes no difference either way (with or without the AC adapter connected). Thanks anyway.

Problem solved:

With nothing to loose I decided to have a closer look at the hardware - starting with memory (which seemed to be seated correctly). However, after removal and re-seating the module a few times the machine is now starting first time, every time and runs perfectly. A "dickie" connection on the start button or intermittent motherboard fault was suspected by technicians but it wasn't that difficult to trace after all.

Thanks for your input earlier on - it was encouraging.
