hello, i have an Acer Aspire laptop and i cannot change the boot order sequence,is all grey , i can only change the date and time. i want to install my OS and i cannot put itt in service cause they told me it takes two weeks and i need it for work and college. please help me. thank you
Who told you it takes two weeks? Is the problem a BIOS password? If so, you need to contact Acer. Be prepared to prove ownership.
no, it's not a BIOS password, and at the service center said to me it takes up to two weeks. i don't have this time. and i looked on the motherboard and the bios/cmos battery is glued onto it and i cannot remove it in order to reset BIOS.
There is a utility called killcmos that you can use from the boot to reset the CMOS values to default. Google for it.
i downloaded killcmos but i cannot run it, it says i have to enter DOS, but i'm using win7, i only have CMD. how can i run it?
I did some additional reading on killcmos and it appears it may not work on your laptop. I suggest you either scrap off the glue and remove the battery or wait for tech support. We read every type of story here at CN on why someone doesn't have a password for a laptop. You haven't explained how this laptop has a BIOS password that you don't know.
I can't help you any further.
it isn't the BIOS password, as i said earlier, the problem is the BIOS itself,i can enter it, but change only date and time, the rest is grey. i formatted only once, but the BIOS wasn't like that cause i could change sequence boot. suddenly now it's all grey. at tech support told me it takes two weeks. next time i'll buy a laptop i'll make sure the BIOS is ok and free to use... Thank you for your support. Have a great day!
