Acer laptop turns off randomly, sometimes after a few minutes sometimes after 45 minutes. Fan and hard drive are good. It's 4.5 years old, I'm thinking it is the battery, thoughts?
Likely overheating (even if fan is working, it's still likely dusty inside). First things first: https://www.techradar.com/news/mobi...

Install HWMonitor to see your temps and voltages. Report temps and the voltages on the main rails (12V, 5V, 3.3V) so we can help you better. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If you think it is the battery, take it out and run on AC adapter only. Does it still turn off suddenly?
