Yesterday, I made the mistake of performing a BIOS update on my Acer Aspire AM3470G-UW10P (desktop) computer. Now, upon startup, my PC beeps twice, and only displays "This BIOS is exclusively for Acer only. Copyright (c) 2002-2011, Acer, INC. I have replaced the CMOS battery, and am still unable to get past this message. I have unplugged everything (hard drives, dvd drives, all RAM except one stick, etc) from inside the case, and no matter what, do not get past the message above. Have I bricked my desktop?

Quite possibly. Where did you obtain the update (and why did you need to update?).

I downloaded the update directly from Acer (http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers). The reason I was updating the BIOS was due to adding new RAM. I added 8gb of RAM to my desktop, and Windows only showed 3 GB usable RAM. After following steps on multiple message boards, the last suggestion was to update the BIOS. I was really concerned about doing this, but made the mistake of doing it anyway.

This is for a laptop model:

http://ccm.net/forum/affich-95127-a...

but tells how to force a boot from a USB drive containing a good bios update. Download the manual for your model and see if something similar is possible with your desktop. It may be called a 'bios recovery'.

Unfortunately for me, the solution above did not work. Also, there was nothing in the manual about BIOS recovery. Any other ideas?
