This is basic/generic manual for that model series:

Page 67 gives the details. Basically it's Alt + F10 as the system boots up (just after the Acer Logo)

Thank you
This didn't work though, there was no option to return to its original state.

I have also been advised that it can't be done without a recovery disc?

I am wanting to sell the laptop, am worried that there will be personal information left on it.

You can wipe it completely, using one or two utilities available.

You can certainly remove all your files etc., and empty recycle bin and defrag it.

You can reformat it using any current OS.

If there is no recovery partition (did you check the various options in the manual?), then you can legally use a compatible windows disk to re-install windows, using the keynwhich will be found on a sticker on the laptop. You can also download an ISO for your OS, burn to a DVD and use that DVD to re-install. You will need an OEM disk however you get one.

Not sure if you can secure/obtain a recovery disk from Asus; have you checked that possibility?

Download the manual afresh from here (Acer support site for that model);

Go to page 31 and check the bios as suggested on that page.

Note that often one may have to press Alt+F10 a few times - at least hold the Alt button and press/tap F10 a few times... But first check the bios settings as per the manual...

And this site may be of interest as it appears to offer downloads for the assorted Acer recovery disks...?

The original hard disk would have had a recovery partition, unless someone deleted it. Also when you get a new laptop it prompts you to create recovery dvd's

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.
