Before you take that step... Think first... Is there anything (personal files etc.) you would like save/keep? I ask as a factory reset WILLwipe all your data (personal files) and any programmes you added in after you received the laptop.

If there is "stuff" you would like to save... Download an ubuntu ISO (a Linux variant) and burn it to a dvd. Then boot up with dvd. You can then access and copy all your personal "stuff" to optical media. And having done so check the copies will play (are accessible) on the system when booted from ubuntu, and ideally at least one other system...

Presuming they are then you can safely invoke the factory reset routine. After-which you can copy your personal stuff back to the hard drive. Keep the copies you made as well, and get into the habit of copying persoal files (music, photos, emails, documents etc.) to external media at regular intervals. Then if system plays up - even worse the hard drive fails... - your "stuff" is safe for the most part elsewhere.

Alt + F10 is the key routine to use...

But also have a read of below. They discuss it a little too...

If do a google trawl for the manual for your acer model then likely that will come up too; and i suggest you download it and have read... Lots of useful things to know in it...
