Solved Acer Aspire ES 15 stuck on setup - How to fix?

January 3, 2017 at 09:44:01
Specs: Windows 7
The setup got to the screen where it asked for the security key of the router. There is a box for entering the key, but it is disabled. Alt/F10 does not work. Switching off then on causes the same screen to appear.

Has this laptop been working OK previously? Are you the original owner?

Did you enter the key?
Is this a windows 7 setup?
Did it ask to install updates? (answer YES and it will try to connect to internet)

If you are in set up for Windows you can tell it that you will set up internet later and it will complete the set up except for registering and updating. You can also connect it via hard wire to the router (Cat5, etc.) and set that up easier and do the Wifi later.

If you are just setting up the Wifi on a working machine then have you tried turning off BOTH the router and the computer, wait a half a minute and restart them both. Have you tried the WPS set up button/procedure? Have you installed the drivers for the Wifi card? Have you tried to update the drivers? Drivers for a laptop or other machine that included Wifi would be though the manufacture's web site under support>downloads. Drivers for add on cards you purchased separately would be through the card manufacture's web site (I rarely use driver disks so I get the newest version.

To Sluc - Thank you for reply. It was going through the setup and when the screen asked for data to be entered, there was no flashing cursor, and also the 'back' and 'next' buttons were not functional.

To Fingers - Thank you for your reply and questions. As it was a new purchase I went back to the Amazon site, and found techie help. Talked through the problem, and they said they would replace it immediately. So just hoping the new one won't have these problems.
