Acer Aspire 7520 will not stay powered on

December 18, 2009 at 05:07:53
Specs: Windows Vista
I have two Acer Aspire 7520 Laptops. A couple of weeks ago one of them would not power on. You push the power button and then it just shuts itself off. I played around with it for quite some time and did get the desktop to come up once but then before it loaded it just powered back off and that was only once. I am unable to get into the bios, I got the screen up once but it shut back off before I could do anything. I am unable to boot from a recovery CD.

I have tried taking the battery out, swapping batteries, hitting F8, holding power button for 30 seconds. The motherboard was replaced about one year ago.

As I said I have Two of these laptops, last night the other one started doing the exact same thing. There are not viruses on them. We run updated Mcaffee. They are a year and a half old. Each of my son's have one.

I have emailed Acer but the Warranties were up in April. I just find it odd that both computers are doing this. They are well taken care of, kept on desk not overheating etc. Any suggestions would be great.

I know three possible reasons for this issue:

- Bad PSU
- Bad RAM
- CPU Overheating

I eliminated the ram being bad at least I think I did. The powersupply I did swap out and got the same result. How do I find out if the CPU is overheating. I dont mean to sound dumb. I know a little with computers but not that much.

One more thing, there are no beeps when it starts up. I was reading on some of the other forums and that seemed to be a common question. It does not make any sound except that it sounds like its going to start up for about 2 sec. and then just shuts back off.
