The only safe way is to backup all the data on the disk, reformat it and restore the data. But do you really need it to be a basic disk?

Windows does not support converting a dynamic disk back to a basic disk. There are some third party products, I don't know if free, that will do this but they cannot be 100% reliable. So as ijack said you will need to back up everything first.

Windows 7 and most modern disk utilities are compatible with dynamic disk so you must consider whether the conversion is really necessary.
