Specs: Windows, Amd ryzen
I was wondering what reference card meant, I was trying to find a Nvidia geforce gtx 970 for sale and couldn't find one, then I came upon the term.

✔ Best Answer
A Reference card is what NVidia makes as a sample for the graphics card manufactures and includes all of their specific settings that they recommend.
I think it also means any card that uses those exact settings/specs rather than tweaking them to maybe get a little more performance out of them and maybe extra cooling because it becomes necessary.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

reference card's are the one provided by nvidia themselves, the ones with the s---ty cooler, try getting one of the aftermarket cards if you want to get ~10% extra perfromance

also an fps comparison:

the Nvidia gtx 970 would be the reference card and the nvidia palit GTX 970 jetstream is an aftermarket card just like MSI, gigabyte asus strix, EVGA, etc. (with better cooling and what not)

the aftermarket cards are usually overclocked out of the box, but also allow for better overclocking due to lower load temps

but anyways why not buy a GTX 1060 6GB?, it should have better driver support and should give slightly better performance at a similar price:

its 400$ WHAT, it should be $240 max, check out the RX 570 and RX 580 too, they should be going for 155~210$ right now& should give similar performance. tho to be fair the GTX 970 is still as good as the gtx 1060 6GB/RX 580 8GB. just get whatever is the cheapest.

link for GTX 1060 3GB at 199$ (its about 8% worse than the 6GB version):

here is an RX 570 (I bought mine for 190$ some time ago), they are going for 155+ right now:

Try to get one with 8GB/s memory bandwidth, rather than 7GB/s(not kidding it gives+5% performance boost)

here is my rx 570 stock vs overclocked(in my daily system)

riider recommended a RX570 in this posters first thread. See the link below. There are several additional links on this same build.

Ya thats cool, but I was wondering about Nvidia reference cards and came upon the gtx 780 and gtx 970 founders edition on amazon (link below) are they any good if I buy them by 2018's standards? cuz I kinda like the style of the cards and their logo glow on the side (getting an nzxt h500 (white)). If they are both bad performance wise I'll just consider your guys suggested gpu's. I know it's old and everything, but those are the cheapest Nvidia blower style reference cards I can find.

** Expansion on reply #8 is also on your newer post. Please see there and avoid asking the same in more than one place to reduce confusion. Either asking here to expand on the original question or starting a new one since it is slightly different is fine, just not both please.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
