a very slow computer

Specs: Windows Vista, 1.20 ghz, i think
i have a ibm thinkpad 600e that won't boot it will show a date error and then it will start to boot and just sit on the boot screen how do i fix that? it also has windows '98.

The date error is likely due to a dead CMOS/BIOS battery. Replace it and correct the BIOS settings to what they were before and see if the machine will boot.

IBM used to offer recovery cd's to return it to OEM state. Look for them or see if Lenovo would sell new ones.
